XLMultiMail 3.0 is now available. It fixes Error Code 438 when opening the file and adds checks that prevent emails from being sent incorrectly.
What's new
| Item | Version 2.6 | Version 3.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Opening the file | Error Code 438 when ActiveX is blocked | ActiveX is no longer used |
| Send Mail button | Sends to everyone right away | Sends after you confirm the recipients |
| Missing attachment | Mail is sent without it | Reports the row and file name, and excludes the row |
| Error during sending | No way to tell how far it got | Records each row's result so you can resume |
| Hidden rows or columns | Error 1004 | Works normally; hidden rows are not sent |
| Font selection | Combo boxes | Drop-down cells |
Error Code 438 fixed
Version 3.0 works without changing your security settings. Error 438 occurred when ActiveX was blocked and the font combo boxes could not be used. ActiveX is off by default in Microsoft 365 and Office 2024, and it can also be blocked by company policy or security software.
Version 3.0 replaces the combo boxes with ordinary cells. It also no longer starts Word to load the font list, so the file opens faster.
If you changed your ActiveX settings to work around Error 438, you no longer need that setting for this program.
Check before sending
When you click [Send Mail], the program now checks every row before creating any mail and shows the result in a single dialog. Clicking the button by mistake no longer sends anything.
The program checks:
- The format of the recipient (TO), CC and BCC addresses
- Whether attachments and image files exist
- The format of the delay delivery time, and whether that time has passed
- Whether a replacement value used in the mail is unreadable because its column is hidden or too narrow
Rows with problems are listed with numbers, and you can exclude them and send the rest.
If no row can be sent, the program shows the cause and stops without asking a question.
Send results
The result of each row is recorded in the [Mail List] sheet, in the columns after the last attachment column (BO to BQ by default). If an error occurs, you can see exactly how far the program got.
| Send result | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Sent | The mail was handed to Outlook |
| Failed | An error occurred; the details are in Result note |
| Excluded | The row failed the check; the reason is in Result note |
If you run the same list again, you can skip the rows marked Sent and continue, or send them again. Save the file after sending to keep the results.
Sent means the mail was handed to Outlook. When you send a large number of emails, they may stay in the Outlook Outbox for a while.
Other fixes
- Fixed mail staying unsent until Outlook was opened later. The program now asks you to start Outlook first.
- Fixed a blank mail with no subject or body that could be sent when the delivery time was invalid.
- Fixed some errors that opened the VBA debugger instead of showing a message.
- Fixed Error 52 caused by invisible characters in attachment paths copied from the file properties window.
- Fixed mail that had failed staying open in Outlook.
If you used an earlier version
Keep your existing file, download the new file and copy your [Mail List] data into it.
- Rows that are hidden or filtered out are not sent, even if they are set to YES.
- CC and BCC must be entered as email addresses. A name alone is reported as Cannot be sent.
- Rows with a missing attachment are not sent. To send without it, delete the attachment path.
- Rows with a delay delivery time in the past are not sent.
- Start Classic Outlook before sending. If it is not running, the program shows a message and stops.
- The new Outlook is not supported.
